the house

The house is the experience.

French Haveli has lived through more than a century of Ahmedabad’s history. Its open courtyard, carved timber, patterned floors and traditional jhula have been restored without removing the intimacy of the original home.

The name records a real chapter. In 2000 an Indo-French project began restoring the old city, and the French architects who worked on this haveli lived in it. Today Threee Foundation keeps it as a five-room guesthouse.

The final hundred metres are part of the old city.

The haveli sits inside Dhal ni Pol, a pedestrian-scale neighbourhood of the 600-year-old walled city. Cars stop at the main road. From there the house is about a hundred metres on foot.

1

Arrive at Dhal ni Pol

Ask any driver for the Dhal ni Pol gate. The airport is about 11 km away, the railway station about 2.

2

Walk or take a rickshaw

The last stretch passes sub-pols, bird feeders and front steps. Autos can come in as far as Khijada Sheri.

3
